Employers in California must comply with these state requirements when making the final wage payment to terminated employees.
In California, wages must be paid at the time an employee is discharged. An employee who quits may be paid within 72 hours unless 72 hours' notice of the intent to quit is given, in which case wages are due at the time the employee quits.
Laid-off employees in the motion picture industry must be paid within 24 hours after discharge, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Striking employees must be paid on the next payday.
