Restrictions on Firing Employees in Florida
Employers in Florida are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.
Florida laws make it unlawful for an employer to:
- threaten or dismiss an employee who serves on jury duty
- fail to provide employees with safe working conditions
- deny equal employment opportunity
- fire an employee for filing a workers' compensation claim
- violate protections for veterans or reservists
- retaliate against an employee for reporting a safety violation
- fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or other garnishment
