Georgia Rules for Employing Minors

Employers in Georgia must conform with these state rules relating to the employment of minors.

In Georgia, minors between the ages of 12 and 16 may not work without a certificate of age and fitness issued by the local superintendent of schools or by the principal administrative officer of a private school.

A similar certificate is required for persons age 16 to 18 to work between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Georgia requires that minors' employment certificates be accompanied by a letter from a school administrator indicating that the minor is enrolled in school full time and has a good attendance record for the current year. The letter must be updated annually and included with the minor's employment certificate in the minor's employment file.
