Restrictions on Firing Employees in Illinois
Employers in Illinois are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.
Illinois laws make it unlawful for an employer to:
- fail to allow employees time off for jury service
- fail to allow employees time off to vote
- deny equal employment opportunity
- violate protections for veterans or reservists
- retaliate against an employee for filing a wage claim or an unfair employment practice
- fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or other garnishment
