Restrictions on Firing Employees in Iowa
Employers in Iowa are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.
Iowa laws make it unlawful for an employer to:
- fail to allow employees time off to vote or for jury duty
- require an employee to take a polygraph test
- fire employees who file complaints about their exposure to hazardous chemicals
- deny equal employment opportunity
- violate protections for veterans or reservists
- retaliate against an employee for filing a safety complaint
- fire an employee for having wages garnished
