Iowa Wage Payment Timing Requirements

Employers in Iowa must comply with these state rules regarding the timing and frequency of wage payments.

Employers in Iowa are covered by the state's wage payment laws except for certain agricultural and coal mine employers.

Employees must be paid at least monthly, semimonthly or biweekly within 12 working days of the pay period's end. Installments or regular paydays may be designated in advance.

An employer and employee may, upon written agreement that must be maintained as a record, vary the frequency-of-payment provisions in Iowa's wage payment law.
