Employers in Louisiana must comply with these state requirements when making the final wage payment to terminated employees.
In Louisiana, upon the discharge of an employee, the employer must pay the amount due under the terms of employment, whether the employment is by the hour, day, week, or month, on or before the next regular payday or no later than fifteen days following the date of discharge, whichever occurs first.
Employees who resign must be paid on or before the next regular payday or no later than 15 days following the date of resignation, whichever occurs first. This rule does not apply in the case of a collective bargaining agreement providing for an alternate payment date for employees who resign.
