Jury Duty Leave Rules in Massachusetts

Massachusetts employers must provide employees with leave for jury duty in accordance with these state rules.

Massachusetts law provides that it is unlawful to discharge an employee for the reason that the employee is required to serve as a juror.

An employee must be paid regular wages for the first three days, or part thereof, of juror service.

The court has the authority to excuse an employer from the duty to compensate an employee serving as a juror upon a finding that extreme financial hardship would be imposed upon the employer if this duty were not removed.
