Meal and Break Rules in Massachusetts

Employers in Massachusetts must comply with these state rules relating to meals and break times.

A person may not be required to work in Massachusetts for more than six hours during a calendar day without an interval of at least 30 minutes for a meal.

Exceptions apply to:

• ironworks
• glassworks
• paper mills
• letterpress establishments
• print works
• bleaching works
• dyeing works
• any other establishments exempted by the commissioner
