Workplace Smoking Rules in Minnesota

Employers in Minnesota must comply with these state rules regulating smoking in the workplace.

Under the Minnesota Clean Air Act smoking is prohibited in public places, including places of employment.

Employers covered: An employer with one or more employees is covered.

Written policy requirements: A written employer policy requirement is not specified.

Posting requirements: A reasonable effort must be made to prevent smoking in a public place by posting the appropriate signs prohibiting smoking.

No smoking areas: Smoking is prohibited in public places, places of employment, public transportation, and at public meetings.

Smoking is also prohibited in bars, restaurants, bingo halls, day care facilities, residential facilities and certain health care offices and facilities.
