Employment Laws in Mississippi

Employers in Mississippi must conform to these state rules relating to the employment relationship.

Mississippi does not have a general law prohibiting employment discrimination for private employers. The general employment discrimination law applies only to state employers.

However, public and private employers are covered by the tobacco use provisions.

Prohibited Employment Discrimination

Employers may not discriminate in employment decisions or refuse to hire a job applicant because the individual does or does not use tobacco products outside the course of employment.

Employer Discrimination Provision

It is unlawful for a person, public or private institution or public official to discriminate against an employer because the employer declines to pay for or arrange for the payment of any health care service that violates its conscience.
