Conducting Criminal Record Checks in Missouri

Employers in Missouri are permitted or required to conduct criminal record checks in accordance with these rules.

Criminal background checks are required for health care and educational professionals, including applicants for these positions.

Child care, elder care and personal care workers must complete a registration form for the state's Family Care Safety Registry provided by the Department of Health within 15 days of the beginning of their employment. Failure to submit the form without good cause is a violation of law.

An in-home services provider or home health agency is violating the law if it knowingly employs a person to provide in-home or home health services who either refuses to register with the Family Care Safety Registry or is listed on any of the background check lists in the registry.
