Meal and Break Rules in Nebraska

Employers in Nebraska must comply with these state rules relating to meals and break times.

Nebraska does not have a general meal and rest period provision. However, a meal break requirement is in effect for certain industries.

Employees in Nebraska who work at an assembling plants, work shops or mechanical establishments must have at least 30 consecutive minutes between the hours of noon and 1:00 p.m. each day or 30 consecutive minutes during any other suitable hour for lunch.

This provision does not apply to employment that is covered by a valid collective bargaining agreement or other written agreement between an employer and employee.
