Paying Terminated Employees in New Jersey

Employers in New Jersey must comply with these state requirements when making the final wage payment to terminated employees.

In New Jersey, in cases of discharge, layoff, or termination for any reason, or if an employee quits, the employer must pay all wages due by the next regular payday.

An additional 10 days may be allowed in the event of a labor dispute involving payroll employees.

Payment may be made through regular channels or by mail if requested.
