Access to Personnel Files in Ohio

Employers in Ohio must conform with these state rules regarding employee access to personnel records.

Ohio does not have a general law on access to personnel files that applies to private employers.

However, upon written request, employers must furnish copies of medical records pertaining to physical examinations or tests required by the employer as a condition of employment or arising out of a work-related injury or disease.

Employers may require employees to pay the cost of furnishing copies of medical reports.
