Ohio Minimum Wage Law

Employers in Ohio must conform with these state rules regarding the minimum wage paid to employees.

The minimum wage rate in Ohio for 2014 is $7.95 per hour ($7.85 per hour for 2013).

The minimum wage rate is $7.25 per hour for employees of employers having gross annual receipts of $292,000 or less for 2014 ($288,000 or less for 2013) and for youth under the age of 16.

Not covered by the minimum wage rate are:

• employees of the United States
• babysitters and live-in companions
• people who deliver newspapers to the consumer
• outside salespersons
• executive, administrative and professional employees
• certain agricultural employees
• employees of charitable hospitals
• police and fire fighters
• students working part-time or on a seasonal basis for a political subdivision
• children's nonprofit camp and recreational employees

An exception also applies to certain employers with state licenses that authorize the payment of a lower wage rate to individuals with mental or physical disabilities that may adversely affect their opportunity for employment.
