Pennsylvania Overtime Pay Law
Employers in Pennsylvania must conform with these state rules regarding overtime pay for employees.
In Pennsylvania, time and one-half must be paid for overtime in excess of 40 hours per week.
Exemptions From the General Overtime Provision
Employees in the following classifications are exempt from overtime provisions:
- seamen
- salespersons, partspersons or mechanics employed by retail vehicle dealerships
- taxi drivers
- news editors, announcers and chief engineers for radio or television stations in towns that have a certain population level
- maple sugar processors
- motion picture theater employees
- employees of a motor carrier for whom the federal Secretary of Transportation has power to establish qualifications and maximum hours of service
Healthcare workers. Healthcare employers may pay employees overtime for hours worked in excess of eight hours per day, or 80 hours in a 14 day period.
