Restrictions on Firing Employees in Pennsylvania
Employers in Pennsylvania are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.
Pennsylvania laws make it unlawful for an employer to:
- fire an employee who serves on or testifies before a wage board
- require an employee to take a polygraph test
- fire an employee because of jury duty
- fire for union activity
- deny equal employment opportunity
- retaliate against an employee for filing a wage complaint
- fire or otherwise retaliate against an employee because the employee reports wrongdoing by the employer
- violate protections for veterans or reservists
- fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support
