Tennessee Rules for Employing Minors

Employers in Tennessee must conform with these state rules relating to the employment of minors.

In Tennessee, for the employment of a minor under the age of 18, parents or guardians of the minor must submit to the employer a signed or notarized statement of consent.

With parental consent the minor may then be employed between the hours of 10 p.m. and midnight, Sunday through Thursday evenings preceding a school day, but not more than three occasions during any week.

The original copy of the parental consent must be maintained by the employer for the period that it is in effect at the location of the minor's employment.
