Meal and Break Rules in Virginia

Employers in Virginia must comply with these state rules relating to meals and break times.

Virginia does not have a general meal and rest period law. However, a special provision applies to minors.

Minors may not be employed or permitted to work for more than five hours continuously without an interval of at least 30 minutes for a lunch period.

A period of less than 30 minutes is not deemed to interrupt a continuous period of work.
