Paying Terminated Employees in Wisconsin

Employers in Wisconsin must comply with these state requirements when making the final wage payment to terminated employees.

In Wisconsin, except for salespersons who are paid on a commission basis, employees without contracts who quit or are discharged must be paid in full no later than the employee's next regular pay day or monthly, whichever is earlier.

Businesses that relocate, merge or shut down must pay employees within 24 hours.

Employers generally must pay migrant workers wages due within three days after termination of employment.

Principals must pay independent sales representatives the commissions due at the time of termination, cancellation or nonrenewal of their contracts.
